There is an urgent need for Mayo County Council and Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) to provide additional public lighting and to install a public footpath to the Funeral Home in Crossmolina.

That was the urgent appeal from local councillor Michael Loftus to council management at this week’s monthly meeting of Ballina Municipal District.

The councillor pleaded for immediate action on both matters. He said Crossmolina had witnessed one of the largest ever turnouts to a funeral in the town earlier this week and he said a person queuing to enter the Funeral Home sustained an injury, but he said a fatality will occur if action isn’t taken immediately.

Mourners, he claims, area often forced to stand out on a busy road in the dark, lining up to convey their sympathies to grieving families and he says it’s not acceptable.
