A million euro additional funding from government to local and regional roads in county Mayo this year, is simply not enough, according to Fine Gael councillor John O’Hara.

He told the monthly meeting of Ballina Municipal District yesterday that the county’s roads need twice the 37 million euro announced earlier this week to address the collapse of many roads at present.

Stating that the cost of tarmacadam has doubled in price over the past twelve months, the councillor insists, that at least twice 37 million euro is needed if the roads crisis in the county is to be resolved.
