A man has died following a single vehicle collision on the main Claremorris to Ballyhaunis road overnight.

The incident involving a van happened shortly after midnight on the N60 at Ballygowan Bridge. 

The 40 year old driver died from his injuries.

His name has not been released.

His body has been removed to Mayo University Hospital, where a post-mortem will take place.

The road has re-opened to traffic this morning, following a technical examination.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses particularly anyone with dashcam footage to contact them.
