Cabinet is set to approve a new 18 million euro scheme for hauliers, which will see them receive a direct cash-payment per lorry to help with the cost of fuel.

Under the scheme, companies will receive 12 hundred euro for the first five lorries, 700 euro for vehicles six to 20, and 200 euro for every vehicle after that.

Recent research from the Department of Transport estimates weekly fuel prices are around 300 euro more expensive per vehicle.
