A Galway East Deputy as welcomed the appointment of a consultant Ophthalmologist for the Tuam Primary Care Unit.

Deputy Sean Canney says that this now means people won't have to travel as far as Galway City for appointments.

He also says it may help relieve some of the traffic that currently travels into the city but will still be just as accessible because of the motorway network in Tuam.
