Questions need to be asked about the value of the Primary Care Centre at Moneen Castlebar in light of the continuous overcrowding at the Emergency Department of Mayo University Hospital.

That’s the view of Castlebar Cathaoirleach Michael Kilcoyne.

The Independent councillor is a member of the HSE West Forum and he has submitted a question on the use of the Castlebar Primary Care Centre, a HSE facility, to this month’s meeting of the forum.

He is asking HSE management how many hours per week is the facility providing a service to the public at present, when is it proposed to extend those hours, and when or if it will provide a 24 hour service.

In addition he has questioned whether or not the Primary Care Centre has had any impact on the waiting list at Mayo University Hospital.
