It is unacceptable that the Sligo Vaccination Centre was closed for four days over the Easter bank holiday weekend.

That’s the view of Fianna Fail TD Marc MacSharry, who argues that the facility at IT Sligo should be open seven days a week to assist with the delivery of the vaccine rollout.

Deputy MacSharry has raised the issue with his party colleagues, the Taoiseach Micheal Martin and the Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly and says he is still awaiting answers.

The outspoken Government TD also says he has suspicions that the North West is being left until last in the administration of vaccines.

Deputy Marc MacSharry told Midwest News that he believes the overall management of the vaccination programme nationally led to the closure last weekend.

In response to a question from Midwest News as to why the vaccination centre was closed, the HSE simply restated the fact that the centre was closed for four days over Easter and reopened on Tuesday morning.
