Ballina Gardaí attended the scene of an assault that occurred at Greenhills Estate, Ballina on Saturday night.

A 19-year-old was taken to Mayo University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

A 19-year-old man was arrested a short time later after a search of the area. 

He was taken to Ballina Garda station where he was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

He has since been released from custody and charged in relation to the offence. 

He is due to appear before Ballina District Court this Friday, charged in relation to the offence.
