There’s welcome news for residents along the busy Turlough road in Castlebar with confirmation that a new pedestrian crossing is to be installed, across from a new filling station and grocery store.

Castlebar councillor Ger Deere had raised concerns, earlier this year at a Castlebar Municipal District meeting about road safety along this route, after Residents Associations in the area had pointed out their concerns for children, cyclists and pedestrians trying to cross this wide stretch of roadway.

At this week’s monthly meeting of Castlebar Municipal District, council engineer Ann Sweeney told the councillor that 200,000 euro in funding has been secured for safety measures along that road, which includes a pedestrian crossing, the extension of a section of footpath and new cycle lanes.
