Independent Roscommon County Councillor Ivan Connaughton has announced he will be stepping down as a councillor in the coming months.
The Athleague-based auctioneer has served on the council since 2014, and was a former member of Fianna Fail.
Last week, during a debate at an Athlone Municipal District meeting about flooding at Lough Funshinagh, he said he was considering resigning over his dissatisfaction at how the flooding crisis was being handled.
Councillor Connaughton has now confirmed, in a statement on Facebook, that he will be stepping down as a county councillor in the coming months and says he's taken the decision "for a number of reasons".
He says "it's been an honour to serve on Roscommon Co Co since 2014, and in particular as Cathaoirleach in 2019", and thanked those who supported him.
