Maternity leave for city and county councillors will be examined by a cross-party group tomorrow.

Six female councillors will meet with Local Government Minister Peter Burke. 

There is currently no provision in law for ministers, TDs, senators or councillors to take leave if they become pregnant.

Minister Burke says maternity leave for councillors is well overdue and that he plans to put new measures in place as soon as possible.
