Mayo's tourist attractions must be allowed to reopen their doors under level 3 Covid-19 restrictions, and have access to domestic tourism this Summer.

That's according to the Association of Visitor Experiences & Attractions.

In this region, the association represents Westport House, Foxford Woollen Mills, Kylemore Abbey and the National Museum of Country Life at Turlough, Castlebar, and claims that the survival of visitor experiences is at a tipping point - having seen a 75% revenue shortfall last year.

Such facilities are not currently allowed to reopen under Level 3 of the Government's revised plan for reopening the country, but the association insists such visitor attractions are perfectly positioned to reopen safely when we move to level 3, having made significant investment in implementing visitor and staff safety measures.

Biddy Hughes, Head of Commercial Development at Westport House, says it may just be an oversight on the part of the Government.
