The aim is to vaccinate 2,500 people a day against Covid 19 in the newly opened Mayo Vaccination Centre, located at Breaffy House Hotel resort, in Castlebar
The facility is today rolling out the vaccine to approx 300 people aged 16 to 69, who are at very high risk due to their medical condition.
Healthcare workers, outside of hospital settings, will be the next group facilitated in the new centre, and then it will be used to deliver the vaccination programme to the wider public.
Staff from Mayo University Hospital and Community Healthcare West are administering the vaccine and are currently recruiting additional staff, including vaccinators to ensure that the necessary teams are in place to deliver the COVID-19 vaccination to the people of Mayo generally over the coming weeks and months.
Fran Power is the Covid 19 Vaccine Centre Manager in Breaffy and he has been telling Midwest News Editor Teresa O'Malley about who is receiving the vaccine there today..
