Inland Fisheries Ireland has been granted half a million euro in funding to improve infrastructure, safety and access at four angling locations - including Aasleagh, along the Erriff River in Mayo and in Claregalway.

The works include wheelchair-accessible platforms and a wheelchair-accessible trail.

The funding is part of a €6 million package announced today under measure 3 of the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme.

It includes funding for greenways, blueways, mountain bike trails, forest parks and angling facilities around the country.

Among the other projects receiving funding is half a million euro for the Mote Park outdoor recreation trail in Roscommon town, and a cycle link to the Beara Breffni Way on the River Suck.
