The R334 has reopened to traffic following a fatal road traffic collision in South Mayo yesterday.

A man in his late 70's died in the two-vehicle collision between Cross and The Neale.

Shortly before 12 noon, a car and a lorry were involved in a crash, and the driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

The lorry driver was taken to Mayo University Hospital for medical assessment.

The road reopened to traffic last night after a forensic examination was completed at the scene.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to the collision to contact them at Claremorris Garda Station at 094 - 9372080, and are appealing also for anyone with dash-cam footage from along this route at the time of the collision to make it available to Gardai.
