Road infrastructure projects south of Ballinrobe cannot continue to be neglected.

That's the view of Robeen-based counillor Patsy O'Brien, who says he will raise his perceived lack of progress on a number of projects in South Mayo 'at all levels.'

He has outlined a number of projects in the area that he feels have been left behind in recent funding allocations like the N84 at Gurteen, the proposed Bulkaun footbridge in Ballinrobe, the R334 between Ballinrobe and Headford and the R332 between Foxhall and Kilmaine, which links South Mayo to the N17 motorway at Tuam.

Councillor O'Brien singled out the funding of E100,000 for the R332 as insufficient, considering the increase in traffic volumes from this strategic motorway link.

He's been giving more details to Midwest News...
