The Garda Chief Supt in Mayo, Tony Healy has today appealed for any information in connection with the hit-and-run that resulted in the death of a male pedestrian in Castlebar on Wednesday night last.

Gardai are investigating the fatal hit and run collision involving a vehicle, that occurred in the Humbert Way area of the town at ten minutes before midnight last Wednesday night.

The pedestrian, a man in his mid 40s, was treated at the scene before being brought to nearby Mayo University Hospital, where he later passed away from his injuries.

The post mortem has been completed and a forensic examination of the scene has taken place.

Gardaí are appealing to the driver of the vehicle involved in this incident to come forward.

Gardaí are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage who were travelling in the area between 11:30pm -12:30am to make this footage available to Gardaí.

At the county Joint Policing Committee Meeting today Chief Supt Tony Healy appealed to anyone with any information to please contact the gardai. He confirmed that a Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed to the investigation team in Castlebar.
