The section of the Humbert Way, part of the N5, in Castlebar closed due to a fatality overnight has re-opened to traffic now.
The road between Cathal Duffy's Roundabout and the junction at the Fire Station had been closed to traffic to allow a garda technical forensic examination of the scene.
A pedestrian in his mid 40s died following the incident that occurred shortly before midnight, on Humbert way. He was treated at the scene before being brought to nearby Mayo University Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The man who is understood to have been living in the locality, has not yet been named, as gardai say his family is being notified.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the incident and are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam), who were travelling in the area between 11:20 p.m. and 12:20 a.m. to make this footage available to them.
