An Irish-filmed movie based on the writing of an author from Knockmore, Ballina has been nominated for four British Academy of Film and Television Awards (BAFTAs).

“Calm With Horses” featured in an award winning debut collection of short stories called “Young Skins” by Knockmore native, Colin Barrett.

The fictional story published in 2013,  was quickly picked up by DMC film production in the UK with screenwriter Joe Murtagh and director Nick Rowland leading the film adaptation.

Supported by Screen Ireland, as well as the WRAP Fund, the film, which was shot on location in Co. Galway, has been well received by international film critics.

It has now been nominated in a total of four different BAFTA categories including Best Outstanding British Film and Best Casting while there are also Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress nominations for Barry Keoghan and Niamh Algar.

“Calm With Horses” is currently available to watch on Netflix in Ireland.

The 2021 BAFTA ceremony will take place on the weekend of April 10 next and will be broadcast by the BBC.
