The need for a pedestrian crossing on the busy old Turlough Rd in Castlebar and the problem of speed in the nearby Oaks Housing Estate have been highlighted by local councillor Ger Deere
At this week’s monthly meeting of the Castlebar Municipal District the councillor explained that since the opening of a new Filling station and convenience shop in the area, there is an increased volume of pedestrians crossing the Turlough road. There is a population of several hundred residents in the immediate vicinity. He says there is a serious issue with speed in the area and he believes a pedestrian crossing is urgently required.
In addition, the residents of the Oaks Housing estate have expressed their concerns about the issue of speed in their estate. Since Lock down, the volume of delivery vehicles and couriers entering estates has increased dramatically and sometimes at speed. Children not at school tend to be out and about in estates. For all these reasons, he called on council management to look urgently at installing traffic calming measures in these locations.
