A fundraising campaign to raise funds to complete the modernisation of Ballintubber National School in Co mayo has raised over €11,000 in a week.

The target was to raise €8,000.

In the region of €800,000 has been spent on the modernisation of Ballintubber school.

However, this year's annual bucket collection could not go ahead due to Covid-19, leaving a deficit of €3,500, while extra funds were needed to complete the project - including furniture, shelving and floor coverings.

A go fund me campaign was launched last week, and donations so far have exceeded €11,000.

School Principal Brian McConnell says staff and management are thrilled with the response, and says the modernisation programme can be successfully completed by this Easter.
