Over 120 projects have progressed to full approval by the South West Mayo Development Company, under LEADER 2014-2020.

Sabina Trench, LEADER Programme Coordinator for the company working with Mayo Local Action Group and Mayo County Council, says the total amount awarded is €5.4million, and this, plus match funding means that nearly €8.9million will be invested in the region.

The average grant was almost €44,000 and the smallest grant approved was €1,450. Two projects were awarded the largest funding available of €300,000 each. These were 1st Mayo Scouts CLG for their new scouts’ den in Castlebar and Burrishoole Community Partnership CLG to develop a new community centre to serve Newport and surrounding areas.

While the LEADER Programme 2014-2020 is closed for new applications, Mayo LAG has confirmed that there are still grants available for eligible food businesses and the Transitional LEADER Programme will open on 1st April (2021).

Details of the County Mayo Transitional LEADER Programme are yet to be finalised.
