The first installments to successful applications for the €20 million Strengthening Disability Services Fund have been announced today by Galway East Fianna Fail TD Anne Rabbitte.
The one-off grants are being provided to reform disability services, build the capacity of disability organisations and to improve the quality of life of those who rely on these services.
Projects approved include improvements to premises, such as additional recreational spaces, therapeutic spaces and sensory gardens and the installation of IT equipment and infrastructure.
Ability West in Galway has been allocated over €200,000 for two separate projects; €140,000 for staff development and training and €61,200 for It developments and upgrades.
The Minister of State with responsibility for Disability Anne Rabbitte told Midwest News that the pandemic showed the need to invest in technology for disability service users.
