Researchers at The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA) have released a detailed report revealing the toll of the COVID-19 crisis on the health and social circumstances of Ireland's older adults.

The report was launched by Sligo-Leitrim TD Frank Feighan, the Minister of State for Public Health, Well Being and the National Drugs Strategy.

The TILDA report delves into a broad range of factors that affect the lives of adults aged 60 years during the first few months of the pandemic.

It measures the effect that Covid restrictions have had on 4,000 adults aged 60 years and older, including unmet healthcare needs, and changes to caregiving and receipt of care.

Fine Gael TD Frank Feighan says that this TILDA report underscores the negative impacts of the pandemic on older people's health and wellbeing.

He told Midwest News that it Government is committed to establishing a new statutory scheme for the financing and regulation of home support services, which is currently being developed.
