Joe Biden has been officially confirmed as the next US president in a vote last night by the Electoral College.

He got more than the 270 votes needed to secure the White House.

And he's taken aim at Donald Trump's 'unprecedented assault' on America's democratic systems.

Mr Biden - whose ancestors are from the Ballina area - pointed to President Trump's repeated and unsuccessful attempts to challenge the result.
