The HSE is progressing two major health facilities in Tuam.
According to Independent local deputy Sean Canney, the Community Nursing facility is tendered, and the successful contractor is expected to commence construction in March 2021.
He says the new 50 bed community nursing facility is to be located beside the new Primary Care Unit. This building will replace the existing Arus Mhuire facility which HIQA has deemed not to be fit for purpose.
Separately, the tender for the refurbishment of the old Grove Hospital building is to issue this week. The project includes the conversion for the building into a Mental Health Day Hospital and a Disability Services Unit. At present, he says, some enabling works are being carried out including asbestos removal in preparation for the commencement of the project.
The main contractor for this project is expected to be appointed by May / June 2021.
The two projects represent an investment in public heath care for Tuam and North Galway in excess of €30 million.
