Mayo Senator Lisa Chambers believes a Brexit deal can still be agreed, but only with compromise and concession on both sides.

The EU's chief negotiator Michel Barnier has told MEPs that negotiations on a post-Brexit deal could continue until Wednesday of this week, but no later.

He said if there's no deal, then the European Commission would be ready to react immediately with contingency plans.

Taoiseach Micheal Martin says it would be a significant failure if a Brexit deal doesn't get done this week.

But he agrees it will be very challenging to close the gaps that remain on fisheries and the level playing field.

Speaking to Midwest News, Mayo Fianna Fail Senator Lisa Chambers said she is concerned at the current lack of progress.
