Westport-based Superintendent Kevin Gately is retiring from An Garda Siochana today.

A native of Carrick-on-Shannon, Kevin joined the force in 1989, serving first as a Garda in Kilmainham, Dublin before transferring to the Garda Fraud Bureau where he served as a Detective Garda and a Detective Sergeant.

He was subsequently transferred to Galway and later to Letterkenny when he was appointed an Inspector.

He arrived in Westport in September 2017 as a newly-promoted Superintendent, and is retiring from the force today.
