Weather warnings are in place until this evening as Storm Francis tracks across the country.

11 thousand homes, farms and businesses are without power this afternoon with severe flooding reported in southern counties - particularly in Cork.

Locally, there were some concerns about possible flooding in Crossmolina, but Mayo County Council has confirmed to Midwest News this afternoon that, while the Deel river is continuing to rise, the rate of increase is tapering off.

Water levels will continue to be monitored over the next 12 hours, however, the council says the risk of a flood event occurring in Crossmolina has dissipated.

A status orange rain warning remains in place until 6 o'clock this evening for Connacht, as well as counties Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal.

A yellow rain warning is in place for the rest of the country.

Met Eireann says centre of the storm is currently over the Midlands, and it's tracking eastwards.
