The Fine Gael Whip on Mayo County Council Peter Flynn says he supports Leo Varakar's decision to remove the party whip from three senators who attended the Oireachtas Golf Society event.

Mayo Senator Paddy Burke was removed from the position alongside the now former Leas-Caoithaoirleach of the Seanad Jerry Buttimer and John Cummins.

Cllr Flynn believes that government officials attending the event was 'inexcusable' considering that they should be trying to bring the public along with public health advice during the pandemic.

He told Midwest News that he believes Mayo Fine Gael Councillors were 'proven right' in their opposition to the coalition government by what he termed a 'shambolic' number of weeks.
