Mayo fire services attended the scene of a blaze on lands in Balla earlier today.
Members of the local fire-fighting unit arrived at the scene after the alarm was raised and brought the flames under control.
The blaze occurred at around 2 o’clock this afternoon 100 metres from the village near houses on the Mayo Abbey Road.
The fire had spread quickly in the dry conditions and also a strong wind was at play and it took over two hours to bring the fire under control..
A Status Red fire warning remains in place for the country over the bank holiday weekend.
