The Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council Brendan Mulroy says he is hugely proud of the people of the county for the way they are adhering to the government imposed Covid-19 restrictions.

While he described the last number of weeks as a “terrible time generally”, he was in high in praise of all staff in hospitals and care homes, as well as retail staff, petrol station staff and Mayo County Council workers who have all stepped up to the mark during these trying times.

In particular, he said he greatly admires all the over 70s in our county and country, who have adhered to the imposed cocooning.

The Cathaoirleach was speaking at yesterday’s monthly meeting of Mayo county council, convened with just enough local councillors to fulfil a quorum, ensuring that social distancing could be maintained.

This afternoon he spoke to Midwest News  about the strange but necessary monthly meeting of the authority.
