The President and Taoiseach have led tributes to a Co Clare man who died in a plane crash in Ethiopia.

President Michael D Higgins has extended deepest sympathies to the family of Michael Ryan, a native of Lahinch.

The father of two was among the 157 people who died with the Ethiopian Airlines flight from Addis Ababa to Nairobi came down minutes after take-off.

The cause of the crash hasn't yet been established.

The Taoiseach says the Co Clare engineer who died in the plane crash in Ethiopia was doing "life-saving work".

Mr Lynch had been working with the UN Food Programme.
