There is considerable unrest surrounding the future of Shraheen National School near Foxford.

It’s a two teacher school at present with 14 pupils.

The desired amount for two teachers is 15 pupils.

Local Fine Gael Cllr. Neil Cruise says six infants started this year and its projected that eleven children will start over the next three years and says it’s on its way back number wise.

However, the Department has informed the school that if it’s still at 14 children by this Friday they will lose one teacher.

If this happens the Principal isn’t willing to stay on in a one teacher school due to the new child protection guidelines.

Cllr. Cruise says everyone wants to keep Shraheen National School open and today has made an appeal for at least one more child to enrol in the school to secure its future.
