Plans are progressing to erect a memorial in Foxford to honour local  men and women who fought in World War One.

A local committee is working towards placing a momument at Green Road in Foxford in memory of those from the area who were involved in the war.

In order to apply for grant aid, the committee needed Mayo County Council to lease a portion of ground on the town side of the Admiral Browne Promenade for the memorial.

Foxford-based Councillor Neil Cruise told Midwest News that the council has now agreed to the lease, which will allow the committee to apply for grants for the project.
