A forest fire broke out in the Ballycastle area of north Mayo yesterday afternoon.

At about 20 past 4 yesterday (Thurs) the alarm was raised after a large area of forestry and gorse caught fire on a hill at  Ballyglen, Ballycastle.

The blaze could be seen for miles around.

Three units of the fire brigade from Ballina, Crossmolina and Belmullet attended the scene and the fire was brought under control in the early hours of this morning.
