A young garda died suddenly yesterday morning while on duty at Clifden garda station.

An inquiry has begun over the cause of his death, however, there is no suggestion of foul play.

It’s thought he may have had a heart attack.

He has been named as Garda Shane Cuffe from Moycullen, Co Galway.

It is understood his remains were discovered by colleagues at about 7am yesterday Bank Holiday Monday.

Garda Cuffe was in his late 30s and had been a Garda member for about 13 years.

He was a married man with two young children and  had served in a number of garda stations in both counties Galway and Mayo.

Garda Cuffe was a nephew of Acting Garda Commissioner Dónall Ó Cualáin.
