Water restrictions are in place this evening in the Co Galway area of Carraroe.

Irish Water is advising customers supplied from the Carraroe public water supply that, due to exceptional demand and mechanical issues at the plant water, restrictions are now in place.

Water supply will be restored from tomorrow morning with further restrictions expected to be imposed again tomorrow afternoon.

Irish Water says the extremely cold weather is causing issues for water processing at the plant and is also hampering repairs. This situation could continue for a number of days and a further update will be issued tomorrow.

In the meantime, Irish Water working in partnership with Galway County Council is working to maintain a supply to the village centre and nursing home.

Across Co Galway, Customers are asked not to run their taps as it is causing difficulties in many areas with water treatment plants struggling to keep up with demand.

The following areas will experience reduced pressure and/or loss of supply due to this increase in demand over the coming days: Kilkerrin/Moylough, Williamstown, Tír an Fhia, Letterfrack, Tully, Clifden and Clonbur.
