There is increasing concern that the daily bus connections linking both Swinford and Kiltimagh to Galway may be cut.
Listeners to Midwest News, regular users of the service, say it is a vital transport link to Galway for many elderly people in particular, attending hospital appointments.
They believe Bus Eireann intends to discontinue the service shortly and people would have to travel to Foxford or Knock to get a bus to Galway.
Midwest News contacted Bus Eireann for a comment. In response a spokesperson confirmed that the company has received a revised licence for “Route 52” (the route concerned) from the National Transport Authority (NTA), and that is currently being reviewed.
The statement concludes, “The company is working with the NTA – who have responsibility for the public transport network ,on other proposals, to ensure connectivity remains in place”.
That response indicates that the concerns of the general public are well founded and we will now have to await the outcome of that review.
