Patches of black ice are being reported by motorists across the region this morning.

While temperatures remained well above freezing in some parts, other areas experienced sub zero figures.

There are reports of black ice close to Ballyhaunis this morning and also on roads around Crossmolina and on the Crossmolina to Bangor Road.

There was also a collision on the Castlebar Road in Foxford this morning due to black ice. Gardai say a stop/go system was put place and was due to remain in place until around 8.30 this morning.

Gardai in Ballina say black ice is a major issue on roads in that area this morning. The Crossmolina to Belmullet road is especially dangerous this morning.

The Tooreen to Ballyhaunis road and the Cloonfad to Ballyhaunis road are described as very slippery and also roads in the Kiltimagh area.
