A public demonstration will take place today in Ballina as part of the community campaign to retain Ardnaree Post Office.

It’s being described as a demonstration of solidarity that will send a clear message to An Post that the community is united in its stand against any attempt to close Ardnaree Post Office.

The march will commence at 2pm at the Dunnes Stores car park in Ballina before proceeding to Ardnaree Post Office, outside which the public meeting will be held.

An Post has stated that the post office is at risk from the month of March on, when the current postmaster retires.

Matt Farrell who is the Chairman of the Working Group for the Retention of Ardnaree Post Office is calling on the wider Ballina community to show their support as a demonstration of the importance of keeping Ardnaree Post Office open.

Earlier today Minister for Rural and Community Development Michael Ring told Midwest News he has made contact with An Post about Ardnaree Post Office.
