A man who died following a fire incident at his apartment in Castlebar in the early hours of yesterday morning has been named.

He was Martin Costello of No 1 Erris Flats, Castle Street, Castlebar and was in his 40’s.

Neighbouring flat dwellers raised the alarm and rushed to Mr Costello’s assistance.

Extensive smoke damage was caused to the room where the body was found.

Firemen rushed to the scene and prevented the fire from taking hold.

Mr Costello’s remains will repose at Kilcoyne’s Funeral Home in Castlebar on Monday evening from 6-8pm.

He will be laid to rest following 11am Funeral Mass in the Church of the Holy Rosary on Tuesday in Castlebar old cemetery.
