The Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring has approved LEADER funding of €225,000 for a new building extension for Castlebar Social Services at their premises in Castle St, Castlebar.

Minister Ring told Midwest News today that the Castlebar Social Services (CSS) is a great organisation which offers a wide range of facilities and services to isolated and vulnerable people in the town and hinterland, including a 365 day meals on wheels service. CSS, which is in operation since 1973, has a prominent location in the centre of Castlebar.

He said the funding will make the building much more suitable for the service users.  

Castlebar Social Services’ proposed development will facilitate the extension of the building by an additional 1980 square feet. This will provide multi-use space on three floors including a new foyer area. The €225,000 will fund the construction of the lobby, stairs and lift area.
