Strong winds and a risk of coastal flooding are now on the cards after Storm Fionn resulted in dangerous road conditions in many areas last night.

Motorists this morning are being advised to drive with caution, as gardaí report snowy and icy road conditions in places.

Met Eireann’s snow and ice warning remains in place until 9am this morning.

A Status Yellow wind warning has been issued for Galway and for Munster & Leinster, with a warning of very strong winds this evening and into the early hours of tomorrow morning.

Gusts of between 90 and 110 km/h can be expected, and high seas along Atlantic coasts, with a risk of coastal flooding.

The high seas will affect all counties along the Atlantic Seaboard over the new few days, and the Promenade at Salthill in Galway is closed as a precaution against flooding.

We can expect bright spells and scattered showers today with winds moderating, but becoming wet and very windy night tonight, with severe gusts and heavy rain.
