While Storm Fionn has passed, Met Eireann is warning of heavy rain and gale force winds in the West this evening and tonight.

A status yellow wind warning has been issued for Connacht from 5pm this evening until 3am tomorrow morning.

Met Eireann says a fast-moving Atlantic depression will cross Ireland this evening and early tonight, with winds gusting between 90 and 110 km/h in mayn counties.

The winds may be stronger in exposed Atlantic coastal areas for a time this evening.

There’s also an increased risk of coastal flooding, due to the combination of high seas, strong winds and low pressure.

Other areas of the country, including Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal, can expect snow tonight.

Snow and ice across the West last night left roads in many areas in a dangerous condition this morning.

Forecasters say winds will moderate for a time this afternoon before strengthening again this evening, with heavy rain for a time.
