16,000 homes, farms and businesses across the country remain without power this lunchtime following Storm Eleanor.
ESB Networks have now restored power to 134,000 customers who lost power yesterday evening – mostly in counties Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Leitrim, Cavan & Monaghan.
Fallen trees on overhead lines were responsible for most of the damage to the network.
ESB Networks are hoping that all customers who lost power last night will have supply restored by tonight.
However, a further 5,000 customers lost power supplies this morning due to lightening and high winds.
With high winds and rain forecast again for tomorrow, further outages are expected.
Locally, there are currently 8,000 customers in Co Mayo without power.
Mary Keogh, Divisional Manager of ESB Networks told Midwest News today that county Mayo was the county most badly affected by last night’s storm. She said they hope, weather permitting to have all supplies back by this evening.
ESB Networks is advising the public if they come across fallen wires or damaged electricity network, never, ever touch or approach these as they are LIVE and extremely dangerous. Please report any damage to electricity infrastructure by calling 1850 372 999.
