A lorry wentoff the road outside Ballyhaunis this morning, at Morley’s Cross, at the turn for Ballaghaderreen – attempts are being made at present to pull it out –and motorists advised to avoid the area if possible.
Lethal road condition reported between Claremorris and Ballyhaunis – at Ballygown bridge and also at the turn to Cllonfad and dangerous conditions at the Woods in Kiltimagh.
Parts of the N17 are also described as very slippery this morning
In Ballina, the Ballina to Crossmolina road is described as very dangerous, as is the N58 Straide to Ballyvary road.
Generally, road users advised to give themselves extra time for journeys and to slow down.
Motorists across Mayo are asking if roads across the county were gritted last night by Mayo county council.
The local authority admits it did not grit routes last night and issued Midwest News with this statement regarding gritting of roads this morning.
Mayo county council had winter maintenance crews out this morning on all main roads east of Foxford, Castlebar and Ballinrobe (N5,N26, N60, N84 and regional roads off those) with the exception of the Bohola Ballyhaunis route.
This was the council's response when asked to eleborate on roads gritted across the county this morning.
