“Willowbrook Lodge”, Streamstown, Westport - peacefully in the wonderful care of Mayo Hospice surrounded by his family.  

Predeceased by his parents Michael & Kathleen, baby son Michael & his sister Maureen.

Michael will be forever loved & missed by his wife Mary, sons Paul, Mark & Alan, daughters-in-law Sarah, Katie & Gretta, his adored grandchildren Reuben, George, Muire, Carrie, Willow, Ruairí & Sadie, his sisters Ena, Breege & Assumpta, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours & many friends.

Reposing at his residence in Streamstown, Westport (F28 T505) on Sunday, June 9th from 4:00pm until 7:00pm.

Funeral arriving to St. Mary’s Church, Westport on Monday, June 10th at 11:00am followed by Requiem Mass at 12 noon with the funeral proceeding to Aughavale Cemetery.

Michael was a wonderful character and businessman in Westport at the Asgard bar and restaurant when we were children and growing up. His influence has now spread far and wide and continues to do so all over the country. I'll always remember going in with my parents to the snug area and often later on for dinner out the back when the Asgard was at its peak in the 1980s and 1990s. Being in the fish business I got to know so many professionals that would always today refer to Michael as their main influence going into hospitality, including my sister Vivienne. Many a night after sea angling competitions were spent in the Asgard and memories will hold for so many of my generation and younger in Westport. We will all miss Michael and I'm sure Mary the lads and extended families will be heartbroken at his loss but Michael will live on in us all!

I first got to know Michael when he was manager of Breaffy House Hotel. Later he and Mary took over the already successful Asgard in Westport. The Asgard was part of our social life and partying in the 70’ and 80’s. In paying tribute to Michael we have to remember Martin Coughlin. I still see the two having a fag after the bar closed outside the door. I am sure the two with Margie are sitting at the bar of heaven recalling those wonderful days of yore. Mary you were always at his side and together with the lads we are thinking of you at this sad time. May his Gentle Soul rest in peace.
