James (Jim) Browne,

Killadoon, Louisburgh, Co. Mayo (April 27th 2024) – suddenly at University Hospital, Galway.

Predeceased by his parents Molly and Bill Browne.

Deeply regretted by his sister Eileen Browne (Mullingar), his nephew David Hand, his wife Lizzie and their son Thomas, his niece Laoise Hand, her husband Neil Murphy and their daughter Sofia, relatives, neighbours and a wide circle of friends. 

Jim will repose at Mir House, Killadoon, Louisburgh (F28XA39) on Wednesday, May 1st from 3pm until 8pm.

Private removal on Thursday morning, May 2nd at 10am to St. Mary's Church, Westport for Funeral Mass at 11am.

Burial afterwards in Aughaval cemetery, Westport.

Family flowers only please. Donations if desired to Mary's Meals, c/o Summerville Funeral Directors, Ballintubber.

Have known James for close to 50 years. He was a larger than life character. A force of nature. Single minded and fully committed to whatever he undertook in the different phases of his life. No half measures with James - he was full-on in everything he did.
James was a big man in every sense of the word. In particular he was big hearted, kind and generous. James made an indelible impression on all those with whom he made contact. His life experiences taught lessons which he used productively and generously to help others.
In company he was incredibly funny and witty and it always a pleasure to met him.
With James’ passing Westport has lost one of its great characters. Ina chás ní raibh sé riamh níos fíor a rá “ní beidh a leiithéid ann arís”.

A big man in heart and physique ,as a fullback in his prime playing with the local G.A.A. team he was outstanding . In 2016 we invited you to America for the first time .. You preached at the St Anthony novena who was your favorite Saint.
After you got to know America you did many talks in different States over the past few years.
January 2024 knowing your health was weak, we did Mass for you in Medjugorje in the Chapel at Mothers Village and after you received the Sacrament of Anointing.
You over came many difficulties in your life; And like the great apostle St Paul…Once you got to know the true God..You never stoped preaching about the true God..And the Scriptures in your hand.
Also your great ministry of handing out the Medjugorje crosses. How many did you give out? Only God knows..I am sure by now the Lord has revealed this to you..And would like to think .. Lord saying to you come now my faithful servant and enjoy the place I have for you.

Jim died hours before Alfie's anniversary, and I was in Medjugorje.
