I got to know Bert in 1979 in my position as secretary to Castleconnor GAA Finance Committee formed to raise funds to purchase a GAA pitch in the parish. Bert worked tirelessly to help raise the necessary funds. And their was no prouder man when history was made with the opening of St. Brendan’s Park in Castleconnor in 1983.
He was was also a great supporter of Castleconnor Community Games. He will be especially remembered standing at the entrance gate on the annual local
athletic finals day welcoming and greeting young and old with his usual warmth, smiles and banter!
Bert has left us also with unforgettable memories of the many scenes he played on stage representing Castleconnor in Scór Sinsir in Novelty Acts or renditions of Ireland’s best poetry!
He will be greatly missed by so many! May his gentle soul rest in peace!
